The South Central Regional Information Center (SCRIC) is a shared technology service provider in a 3-BOCES region consisting of 50 school districts. The SCRIC provides the following services:

Investigate feasibility of extending help desk coverage beyond normal business hours.

Continue to re-structure services using a tiered approach.

Implement a help desk / service desk as a single point of contact for submitting service requests and solving problems quickly.

Minimize service "bundling."
Increase focus on the use of Internet technologies to improve access to applications and services.

Develop staffing models and management processes to improve customer support to school districts and adapt to rapidly changing technology.

Develop accountability and quality control metrics for services.

Develop specializations in key technology areas such as Workstation Management, Operating Systems, Security, Disaster Recovery, VOIP, etc.

Shorten turn-around time on hardware and software purchase requisitions.

Conduct the business of the RIC as efficiently and cost effectively as possible using the latest technologies and established industry solutions.

Continue to implement data storage technologies such as thin provisioning and data de-duplication to sustain massive growth of data.

Continue to implement virtual server technologies for RIC - hosted services.

Develop a regional directory design to streamline access to applications and open significant technology alternative to districts.

Investigate and evaluate services available in the "cloud" as an alternative to traditional capital - intensive hardware and software (i.e. storage, email, server processing, etc).

Evaluate the benefits/risks of using social software sites (i.e. youtube, facebook, twitter) to provide end-users easy access to information and support.

Improve communications with school districts, BOCES, and RIC staff.

Implement a South Central RIC Website for schools, BOCES, and staff as a single point of information about projects, services and events.

Develop a mechanism to obtain feedback from districts participating in RIC services to identify problems and ensure services are meeting districts needs.

Attend instructional technology meetings in the 3 - BOCES regions to ensure that the technology infrastructure provided by the RIC meets instructional demands.

Maintain the safety, security and resiliency of technology infrastructure and data.

Enhance the current Disaster Recovery Plan to address Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) for each application.

Investigate data protection technology to ensure that restricts unauthorized use of confidential financial, student, and/or staff information.

Complete an independent security risk assessment of the RIC Data Center systems.

Ensure that RIC software applications and infrastructure remain technologically and financially viable.

Begin to transition away from product-centric services and continue to focus on consulting and support to ensure that the RIC is able to quickly adapt to new and changing technology and software developments.

Continually monitor and report to districts on new technology and software products that may provide improved functionality, simplicity, and/or cost savings.

Develop new services and phase-out old services to meet the evolving demands of school districts.

Develop mechanism to obtain feedback from school districts about their interests and directions in data/application services and technology infrastructure services.

Recognize and take action to change, discontinue, and/or create services that address districts needs and are consistent with Co-Ser guidelines.

Effectively manage and control hardware and software assets.

Develop and implement a hardware and software inventory process, license, warranty/maintenance tracking and contract tracking for equipment and services purchased through the RIC. Provide reports for school districts.

Implement warehouse pool of shared spare equipment. Develop processes and services to provide quick replacement of standardized equipment.
